A must visit for any African who wants a better understanding of our history. Expect at minimal to spend an entire day there if you intend to take in all of the knowledge that’s available! Also check out the excellent First Congregational Church of Detroit Underground Railroad Living Museum!

SPEAK IT ??
Customer
You are absolutely right, there were slaves in Africa but those slaves were captives taken from other tribes and through prisoner of war. There skin folk isn’t kinfolk because if u didn’t speak like a tribe, walk like a tribe, or traditions aren’t the same as a tribe, you were different and you were not one of them.

This is all about our history….profoundly amazing.

This place scared the living daylight outta me.
Customer
Yes I believe I went there some time ago but didn’t remember, I went last week to rekindle my memory and I pretty much alone from the start, when you go in, you watch a video about Africa, then as you go through the museum, it’s pretty dark, and the mannequins and stuff kind of look like they’ll come alive, lol and you hear all these weird noises, that did catch me off guard lol

The best way to enjoy the Experience is to go by yourself or to go with close friends, because My Experience going with A very large group is that you can’t fully Observe or enjoy the Exhibits because you are on a time restriction and everything’s rush rush rush. That’s why I say its good to go by yourself or with a small Group
of friends who don’t Mind spinning all day enjoying the exhibits.
Customer

Mary Grant I took my son who is 1/2 Nigerian we were discouraged from going to the exhibit.. maybe it’s because I there without my husband, maybe it’s because I was a white women with a black son.. he didn’t know the difference nor did I until that day & I didn’t want to make a scene… I wanted to explain to him that its important to rise above the schackles of an imposed education.. I was pushed into nursing & being a mom because of stereotypes & the system one day I will take him back & we will watch the I have a dream speech after the exhibit
Customer
