Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History holds quite an eclectic mix from human origins through minerals and gems. Despite being a little crowded we managed to get shots of some of the more famous items, including the Hope Diamond.

@metalhusky Yes they are. Although we have found the museums are often very difficult places to film. Usually the result is worth the challenge. 🙂 There was more to see than could possibly be shown in a short video, but we did what we could.

@Eusepio1957 Museums are quite popular places to visit in the US, and each one seems to have such a story to tell. I am amazed at the massive number of people that visit these places each day. The acoustics are dreadful, and the rumble of conversation makes it impossible to capture ambient sound, but the visuals are lovely. 🙂

You finally got to one of my most favorite museums in DC. Whenever I go to DC, I go there, no matter how short my trip, I love natural history, and this museum does display it so well. One should spend a week there, going every day, and learn more and more each day. Nice music! And I hope your video inspires more people to go there and learn the history and wonder of this little planet we live on. BRAVO and thank you to you and Bev.

@A W 2 Well, thank you! That is so cool. We had an excellent time there, and will be going again as time allows. I will personally be glad when they get the dinosaur exhibit put back together. We had the time of our lives in the minerals exhibit! I was surprised that nobody seemed to pay much attention to the camera or my presentation while shooting. No bones of giants here. The children so want to see them. It’s as if they never existed. Maybe that’s exactly what the Smithsonian wants us to believe. I wonder how come? They sure been confiscating them for many years. Don’t seem fair somehow. Cool stuff none the less, just no bones or skulls of giants that roamed the entire earth for centuries.

Well, none that I am aware of. They are rare, so it is possible that even that Smithsonian doesn’t have any, or perhaps I missed them. Not everything in any given museum’s collection is necessary on display either. Some items are curated as part of research. I just really don’t know.

I live right across from a metro station so I go there often. I love seeing the butterfly’s it’s the only thing there you have to pay for and it’s only $6
